For our Premium U.S. Red set, we are going with 2 grape types that represent 2 of the best in American viticulture; Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley, CA and Pinot Noir from Willamette Valley OR.
1. Honig Cabernet Sauvignon 2019, CA. $48.99
Michael Honig is one of our favorite people in the wine biz, and his Napa Cabernet has been a WineRack staple for over a dozen years. This full bodied red is made from approximately 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, with the other 4 Bordeaux red varieties of Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, and Malbec all included in the blend, plus a dash of Petit Syrah. The wine is aged in a combination of new and used French and American oak, for added caramel, warm spice and toast notes that complement the black plum and raspberry fruit flavors.
2. Cristom Pinot Noir 2020 Willamette Valley, OR $31.99
Cristom Vineyards is named for founder Paul Gerrie's 2 children, Christine and Tom, and 30 years post inception it's still family owned and operated. Farmed with the next 100 years in mind for their vineyards, the Gerries emphasize Old World traditions of utilizing whole cluster fermentation, low yields and native yeasts in their winemaking. This Pinot Noir shows the elegance of Oregon Pinot, along with the skill and craftsmanship of a truly dedicated and experienced team. Crunchy red berry fruit notes with lively acidity and grace make this wine an excellent red for everything from salmon to roast chicken or veggie pasta.
